Terox HP Series Pin Installation Proceedures.
Tools Needed
- Mag powder or dye penetrant (to locate entirety of crack)
- Terox HP Series Pins
- Drill Bit (correct size matching pin size)
- Terox HP Taps
- Terox HP Spot Facer
- Terox Spacing Block (optional)
- Tap Fluid (we recommend AnchorLube)
- Brake Cleaner/Solvent
- Loctite thread locker
Step 1 - Inspect and Locate Crack
- Thoroughly clean repair area
- Use dye penetrant or magnet with mag powder to determine full crack length
- Mark the crack path with marker or scribe
- Mark both ends of the crack - *important* - (the crack must be ended with a pin or repair may fail and crack will continue to grow)
Step 2 - Drill Holes
- Drill a hole at each end of the crack to stop continuation
- Hole should be centered on crack line
- Use recommended drill size for selected pin
- Use spacing block to properly space drill holes along the entire length of the crack.
Step 3 - Spotface Relief/Undercut
- Drill relief and undercut with HP spot facing tool.
*Keep cutter square to the surface and inline with drilled hole. Only remove enough material to create the relief and undercut seat for pin. (Should not cut more than 50% of shoulder depth)
Important: This step is critical as it creats teh proper seat for the pin to rest and lock in place. Be sure the spot facer is sharp and free from damage. If this seat is not cut completely the pin will not lock in and may fail!
Step 4 - Tap Holes
- Apply tapping fluid / AnchorLube
- Tap drilled hole using Terox HP starting tap
- Back tap frequently to break up chips. (One full turn in, one quarter turn back.)
- Tap hole to depth
- Clean hole and repeat with Finishing tap
- Clean hole thoroughly after tapping using brake cleaner/solvent
Caution: When tapping be sure the tap is true with the hole and is not binding. If out of alignment the tap may break.
Step 5 - Installing Terox Pins
- Test pin in threaded hole to be sure it will seat properly
- Use Loctite thread locker on threads
- Screw in repair pins and use socket to ensure the pin seats all the way in the counterbore
- The head will break off a the right torquing pressure
Step 6 - Drilling Again to Interlock Pins
- Once pins are in place, grind them down close to flush with surface.
- Drill holes in between each pin that is already installed; however you must skip every other pin. If you drill between each pin then they will have a chance of spinning out before the next set of pins are installed
Step 7 - Repeat
Repeat steps 1-6 until pins are all in.
